My major in college was communication and I'm not sure why I picked it at the time, WAY back in fall 2009. But now as I reflect back on those years spent in college, on active duty military and now in my present civilian/reservist life, I can see why I pursued this: Comunication is cyclical, it's never static and how we're communicated with parallels to our behavior we exhibit onto others.
There's one moment in my life that stands out more than most, as I'm sure it does for many; September 11, 2001. All the rhetoric that was said by politicians and the media during that time changed my way of thinking, most of this was negative and depressing I'm sad to say. I thought about going one way with this post; ranting about politics, people in public offices and use them as examples of bad or miscommunication. However, that's already been done.
Instead, I'd like to use this opportunity to take my above paragraph and connect good communication practices with followers of Christ. This year my friend Joshua passed away. The first time I met him and his wife was through a bible-study group. Without knowing who I was he invited me into his home, offered me dinner and invited me to join in a discussion with others about the Bible. Needless to say, that evening changed my enire outlook on life ...all becasue of how I was communicated with. It's been a few years since that first encounter and only a few months since Joshua's passing but becasue of how wonderfully he, his wife and the others that evening communicated Christianity to me, I've accepted these teachings into my own life more than I ever did before and now have a richer, fuller life.
