It’s been a while since my last entry and a lot is going on; so let’s get started… I’m officially back with my reserve unit.
I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t skeptical about going back to something that left me with a sour taste, but what’s past is past. During my second newcomers briefing (a little inside, I know), the chief had a lot of talking points. But, what stood out to me more than anything else was his emphasis on Air Force culture. He hammered home that: integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do isn’t just something to embrace during UTA weekends and forget about on Sunday afternoons as we make our way back to civilian life, but it’s something we should incorporate into our daily lives.
I’m not proud of this, but I’ll admit that a few years ago I got distracted and gave up on this culture; a lot of this was attributed to the company I kept; coworkers mostly, but that’s no excuse. I made a mistake and I’ll overcome it.
As chief spoke about his experiences in the Air Force, good and bad, one underlined theme was prevalent… your time in the service is what you make of it!
I’ve been fortunate enough to realize this now and I’m grateful that I didn’t let a few bad experiences stop me early on. I have an awesome new Air Force family, and I'm looking forward to many more adventures with them!
Enjoy the video, it's dedicated to all the convoy warriors out there!
